A few words about HOMEWORK...
WHEN: Monday through Thursday nights
Weekends IF there is "make up" work due to absences, not finishing assignments or if a project has been assigned.
HOMEWORK will be posted in the classroom for the students to record in their agenda books. It is the student's responsibility to do this. Homework will also be updated daily on this site.
How much HELP should be given? Students should be able to complete their Math homework independently as it is additional practice on topics/concepts taught that day AND it is differentiated. The Math homework assigned to your child is determined by classroom observation and a "Quick Check" of the day's lesson. You should review directions, perhaps show them how to do a similar problem, and check for accuracy. If you see errors, tell them to try it again, but do not give the answers.
Your child should also be able to complete homework in other subjects independently with minimal assistance.
How much TIME should it take? For a fifth grader, the average time needed should be an hour or less. If your child regularly struggles and cannot complete the assignments in a timely manner, please let me know!
What will the homework be? EVERY night your child is expected to READ for a minimum of twenty minutes. There will be Math homework each time a new lesson is introduced, and occasionally Science,Social Studies or ELA. This may change, but I will keep you updated!
When special projects are assigned, they will be posted here and a note will be sent home with your child.
